Forsyth County Creek Week is March 23 - March 31. During this week, there are fun and informative activities for all ages happening throughout Forsyth County in honor of our waterways. Come out to your local library and learn more about these amazing and vital natural resources.
World Poetry Day is March 21. Let's celebrate with reading and writing the most popular poetry form in the world: the Haiku. Eliot Daniel Esparza will lead us in writing haiku. The simplicity, brevity, and familiar wonders of nature may even inspire you to write your poetry lines in your own native language. All ages and languages welcome!
Make sure that your loved ones are prepared for whatever comes next. On Monday, April 1st at 2:30 p.m., Summit Credit Union will present a free class at the Southside Branch Library on wills and trusts, teaching folks how to control their assets, both while they are living and beyond.
Every year I try to do a reading challenge by tackling a list of books I normally wouldn’t read. I always end up reading something I never would have picked up. March is National Reading Month. It’s also the month that we celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Thus the first reading challenge - to read a children’s book you have never read before. It could be a classic you never got around to - “The Wind in the Willows” or “Hatchet.” You could try something new like “The First Rule of Punk."
Do you have a hoarder in the house? Attend this free training session provided by Therapeutic Alternatives, Inc. on Wednesday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Southside Branch Library auditorium.
The Southside Branch recently received ten K-Motion wobble stools, LEGO Duplos, and a LEGO BOOST Creative Toolbox--along with dozens of books, educational toys, and furniture--from Kaplan Early Learning Company, headquartered in Lewisville. Educational toy donations will encourage serious playing at Southside Branch. As Fred Rogers said, "For children, play is serious learning."
