Hello FCPL staff, users, friends and supporters!

I am Brian Hart and I’m incredibly honored by the confidence that Forsyth County has shown in appointing me to serve as Library Director for Forsyth County Public Library (FCPL).

I am excited about joining the talented team already in place, leading FCPL into its next phase of providing quality and resonant library programs and services.

Working in libraries has given me a profound sense of purpose and positioned me to help others, both colleagues and customers, find purpose and fulfill promises for their own lives. This is the power of libraries and the staff who do the work.

As a Youth Services Librarian, I enjoyed fostering a love of reading in young children and modeling the best practices for parents to continue the process upon returning to their homes. As a Teen Instructor and Research Specialist, I regularly assisted with homework and occasionally offered life advice, oftentimes sharing lessons learned from my own experiences. As Head of Public Services and Deputy Director, my teams and I discovered the importance of learning and incorporating a city’s history and heritage into the planning of programs and services that we hoped would help move communities boldly into tomorrow.

Library staff and libraries help individuals achieve and aid in the success of entire communities by serving as destinations for learning, exploration, innovation, fun and engagement, and healing and restoration. I thoroughly enjoy the work and the work has enhanced my perspective and enriched my life.

Though we are living in a period of uncertainty under the current health crisis, the work has continued and I have found daily inspiration in the examples of individuals, agencies and communities who continue to demonstrate their agility. I am proud that FCPL is among those agencies that have remained flexible, present and ready to serve and support in building the County into the most resilient version of itself.

Getting to know and fully appreciating the unique identities and needs of customers and communities served by FCPL will be an ongoing process and I ask for your patience and ideas. In the meantime, we will continue building relationships, remain future-focused and stay committed to “the work” every step of the way!

Thank you for reading. No, really, on behalf of the Library…thank you for READING!

Brian Hart
