Parenting Education
The Parent Education Program is designed to reach parents, families, adolescents,
early education and child care professionals, and the community to provide several
educational workshops, classes and related activities that seek to promote positive
parenting and improve child health. Parenting Program activities include a prenatal
parenting class series, Infant/Child CPR classes, SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome)
training for parents and early education and child care professionals, and other
workshops and classes on parenting and health related topics as requested.
Classes Offered
Baby Love Parenting Class – This prenatal parenting program is
a six week series offered several times a year for pregnant mothers and their support
person. Referrals are made by Pregnancy Care Management (PCM) nurses and social
workers, but community referrals are welcome! Topics include safe sleep and SIDS
education, basic infant care, car seat safety, breastfeeding, infant health and
immunizations, infant nutrition and feeding for the first year, infant dental health,
growth and development, post partum care and family planning. Please call (336)

Baby Safety Classes - are held monthly in English and Spanish,
and participants will learn the most recent information about child passenger restraints
and the proper use for each age, and safe sleep and SIDS risk reduction information.

Incredible Years Preschool Parenting Program - Through a grant
from the North Carolina Division of Public Health, we offer the Incredible Years
Preschool Parenting Program (for parents with children ages 3 to 6) that is a research
based, proved effective parenting series. Classes are two hours long and meet for
14 weeks, and childcare, dinner, and assistance with transportation are provided.
Classes focus on strengthening parenting competencies, promote positive family communication
and problem-solving, increase parent self confidence, promotes parental involvement
with school, and promotes children’s academic, social and emotional competencies
