Enhanced Patrol
The
Enhanced Patrol program is a public safety program to increase animal control presence
and visibility in and near neighborhoods, parks and schools. The program has several
goals. The first is to providing a deterrent to violations of the animal control
ordinance through the increased presence of Animal Control Officers in targeted
areas. Additionally it initiates and directs volunteer assistance in educating the
neighborhoods about the responsibilities of pet ownership and identifying habitual
violators.
Program coordinators determine the area to be identified for enhanced patrol activity.
Enhanced Patrol actions are specific to the needs of the designated area to provide
required interdiction. Activity may include, but not be limited to:
- patrols outside standard hours of operation
- patrols using non-uniformed officers
- foot or bicycle patrols
Throughout the year the program works with neighborhoods experiencing problems with
unrestrained dogs. During the summer months the program focus shifts to ensuring
safe use of parks and trails while in the fall special emphasis is given to proactively
patrolling near elementary schools.
